The Way to Raise a Story

October 7, 2022

Corey Latta

the way to raise a story

is to string it to a star

to watch it rise like a bird

believing that before it lands

it’ll bring all the givenness

of a graced thing

and when we forget

how to tell and how to be told

the stories that pass peace

may we remember that they come

between a cry and a prayer

when we slow

                  and are slowed

down enough to follow the question

to ask to live on more than bread

to find the way

ancient and well-lighted

winding like a mystery through

an autumn painted wood

may we remember that it’s

the trusting path that

leads home
