“O my God, let me remember with gratitude and confess to Thee Thy mercies toward me.”
—Saint Augustine, Confessions

My heart is like a hallowed cathedral,
a basilica of blinding beauty,
divinely designed for Christ’s arrival,
Who will deliver me from all that’s evil;
Charity fleshed out in humanity,
a sacred sacrament, my survival.
But somehow, I’ve allowed nocturnal thieves
to replace the means of grace with trinkets
that cast a dark charm of Enlightenment,
which birth devilish doctrines that conceive
a liturgy of lies of the wicked
that will exile the God of wonderment.
I fell into that spell of deception;
now my cathedral is de-beautified,
defaced by icons with reckless smiles.
How can I pray for a renovation
when my prayers ricochet from every side—
failing to reach the One who knows my trials?
But the voice of Grace shook the foundation,
and ripped the veil to awaken my faith,
Re-enchanting my hallowed cathedral—
mirroring the heavens’ constellations,
now the God-Man is in His rightful place
And has delivered me from all that’s evil.
