“Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.” Romans 12:11 ESV
Unbeknownst to me, there’s a war within,
Unpurposed leisure adjacent to sin.
Idleness is the idol I brought in.
Comfort and ease, my formidable foes,
Stealthily seducing me in their sweet throes—
Rousing pleasures, now my soul’s in repose.
I’ve breathed too long under this starless night.
Dawn of hope, envelope me in Your light
And denude me from shadows of twilight.
How is it my life is nowise squandered
By the tyranny of failure and fear?
Has courage been voiced brazenly and clear?
Even if hope has waned, and faith wandered,
It is in my weakness that Christ is honored.
Laying down my life, I’ll stand unconquered
