It Could Have Been an Inauspicious Christmas

Psalm 41:3 ESV

It Could Have Been an Inauspicious Christmas

Just like the world, my body’s shutting down—

from an infectious gift that takes and takes,

a marauder of health. My frame now aches;

while carols are sung all through the town,

tidings of comfort and joy can’t be found.

Sinking in this sickness that’s seeping

through my skin and on my throne of slumber,

 I have surmised that my days are numbered

from Adam’s cracked soul, where sin is leaking.

But love is clothed in flesh that is weeping

with me, as I subsume the Christmas tale;

nursing on the veins of Emmanuel

my faith is now fed, and my body’s well.
