“Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
1 Corinthians 13:7, ESV
Circlet of Promise
L
ove-skilled hands have moved on this golden stone
That was once shapeless, formless, purposeless,
Void of value.
But was this verdict untrue?
For love saw a utility in you,
A seal for a mystery to be shown,
Joining two souls as one, yoked in happiness.
But first, a recasting had to take place,
To be seared, shaped, and sized for a true pledge.
Hallowed in heat,
Impurities to secrete,
Forged in an ancient flame to be complete,
Pulsating with a promise of God’s grace—
An emblem of earnest, an aureate hedge.
With a harrowing cry, you questioned why
Must you taste agony, anguish, and ache?
You’re found worthy
To bear a severe mercy
And be a surrogate of surety,
A gallant oblation for the Most High;
You have become the vow that will never break.
A mysterious rite is in your care
To govern, guard, guide a primitive love.
That love is humble—
Like a child, it will stumble,
And unhand its grip of faith and fumble,
Two trembling hearts that are unaware
That you are a signet from the Lord above.
For when the scent of joy doesn’t linger
And the blessings of bliss are not in view,
In this bleakness
Lovers bleed out with meekness,
Pressing palms in their moments of weakness.
But there’s hope in the ring on a finger;
The resilience in it has brought them both through.
As you can see, your pain was not in vain,
For you were the hinge, the hope, and the help
That had procured
A love that is now secured—
It’s your fortitude that has reassured
That devotion can bloom through tears that rain,
In this circlet of promise, love’s light is kept.
